
This qualification is equivalent in size to one A Level. Students are required to complete 4 units. There are two external exam units (Unit 1 - Information Technology Systems & Unit 2- Creating Systems to Manage Information). There are also two coursework units that are initially internally assessed and then posted for external moderation (Unit 3 - Using social media in Business & Unit 5 Data Modelling). This qualification is designed for learners who are interested in an introduction to the study of creating IT systems to manage and share information, alongside other fields of study, with a view to progressing to a wide range of higher education courses, not necessarily in IT. The topics studied are social media in Business, written exam paper focussing on IT in society, Data Modelling (spreadsheet) and creating a system to manage information (Database). This qualification lays solid foundations for courses studied at University or IT apprenticeships. It combines the knowledge of IT in society and allows students to develop those key practical IT skills that are required in the real world of work.
