Course summary
Religious Studies develops your understanding and appreciation of religious beliefs and teachings, as well as the disciplines of ethics and philosophy of religion. You will develop their skills of critical analysis in order to construct balanced, informed arguments and responses to religious, philosophical and ethical ideas. Course Description: The Religious Studies A level course is designed to equip students with the knowledge and skills necessary to construct informed and balanced arguments in response to philosophical, ethical and theological dilemmas. Students will gain a rigorous understanding of knowledge, belief, and thought central to an understanding of both ancient arguments and issues within the modern world. Students will develop their critical analysis skills in order to help them make sense of contemporary events. Students studying Religious Studies will be required to: ▪ Develop their interest in and knowledge of a rigorous study of religion and belief ▪ Develop an understanding and appreciation of religious thought and its contribution to societies ▪ Adopt an enquiring approach to the study of religion ▪ Reflect on and develop their own values, opinions and attitudes Course content Paper 1 - Philosophy of religion Paper 2 - Religion and ethics Paper 3 - Developments in religious thought
