Literature at A level allows you to read and explore texts at a higher level. If you love reading and have opinions or a developing critical voice, then this is the course for you. You will read novels, plays, poetry and critical material over the full course and must be able to interpret and evaluate what you read. It is important that you are able to articulate this effectively in writing. In year 1, all the set texts feature a flawed tragic hero or heroine who suffers and causes suffering to others. Students will need to recognise and engage with typical features of the tragic genre across four very different texts. In Year 2 the focus is power in all its forms. We explore thought-provoking social and political protest writing, making connections across context and time.
Grade 6 in GCSE English
80% examination, 20% coursework in year 13.
