
English Language/Literature A level gives students an opportunity to study fascinating elements of both language and literature. The course enables students to delve deeper into a wide variety of texts: classic Literature written by famous authors and more modern texts from authors of diverse backgrounds. As well as studying characterization and plot students can explore how we communicate, how words and language have developed and what this means for us as and society. Studying English Literature and Language gives you the tools to analyse the spoken and written word critically and creatively.

Paper 1 - 3 hour exam worth 40% of grade -Remembered places – the representation of place - Imagined worlds – point of view and genre in prose - Poetic voices – the forms and functions of poetic voice - Methods of language analysis are integrated into the activities Paper 2 - 2 hour 30 mins worth 40% of grade - Writing about society – the role of the individual in society, and re-creative writing based on set texts - Critical commentary – evaluating own writing - Dramatic encounters – conflict in drama - Methods of language analysis are integrated into the activities Non-Examination Assessment (NEA) Assessed by teachers. Moderated by AQA worth 20% of grade A personal investigation that explores a specific technique or theme in both literary and non-literary discourse (2,500–3,000 words) Making connections – investigation on a chosen theme and texts Methods of language analysis are integrated into the activity
