The Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) is a standalone qualification designed to extend and develop your skills in independent research and project management. Students are required, with appropriate supervision, to choose an area of interest. • draft a title and aims of the project for formal approval by the centre • plan, research and carry out the project • deliver a presentation to a non specialist audience • provide evidence of all stages of project development and production for assessment. The project can take the format of a 5000 word written report or an artefact and a 1000 word report. The EPQ requires students to carry out research on a topic that they have chosen and is not covered by their other qualifications. They then use this research to produce a written report and, in the case of practical projects, an artefact or a production. A student can take inspiration from something studied in class or something completely unrelated to their studies.
There are three compulsory strands of evidence required for assessment of a project: • a fully completed Production Log • a product, which must include a report • a presentation.
