
Focusing on the major disciplines with Engineering, you will gain the knowledge and hand skills needed to develop or build on a successful career in Engineering and advanced manufacturing. They are also vital components of an Intermediate and Advanced Engineering Apprenticeship. You should choose this course if you wish to progress your career in Engineering and Advanced Manufacturing.You will learn in the classroom and in a work-based environment. Your assessments will be a mixture or practical assignments and written and online testing. The qualification includes mandatory and a wide range of optional units, allowing you to specialise in one of a number engineering disciplines. You will demonstrate the knowledge and understanding of working safely and communicating in an engineering environment, as well an understanding of the ‘principles’ of your chosen discipline. Then through a series of assignments (optional units) you will be able to demonstrate your technical and problem-solving skills. This may involve you in: • machining materials • welding • maintaining hydraulic and pneumatic systems • using computer automated & robotic systems • using mechatronics systems • using composites materials.

Unit 301 – Engineering Health & Safety – online multiple-choice assessment Unit 302 – Engineering Principles – online multiple-choice assessment. Remaining ‘Principle of’ Units – short-answer question paper. All other units – assessed by assignment which contains practical and knowledge-based tasks. Assessment components are graded with Pass, Merit, Distinction.
