The subject provides opportunities to develop knowledge & understanding of the physiological, psychological and socio-cultural issues that relate to Sport. You also learn to appreciate the role of the performer, coach and official in a sporting context.

GCSE Theory of PE is not an essential prerequisite for embarking on this course but would be advantageous. It is however essential that students can perform to a high level in at least one activity or role within a sport. Students will need to pass a practical examination during the first two weeks of the course.

Course content/Outline - 70% Theory Factors affecting participation in physical activity and sport Section A - Applied Anatomy and Physiology Section B - Skill Acquisition Section C - Sport & Society Factors affecting optimal performance in Physical Activity and Sport Section A - Exercise Physiology & Biomechanics Section B - Skill Psychology Section C - Sport , Society & Technology in Sport Course content/Outline - 30% Practical Practical performance in physical activity and sport A) Students assessed as a performer or coach in the full sided version of one activity B) Written or verbal analysis of performance The large part of the course is theory based. However, some theory lessons will incorporate a practical element.
