The most exciting aspect of photography is that you will learn about capturing the world as you see it! Many photographers have explored various techniques to create images that make a personal statement about issues that interest or concern them. Students will embark on a course exploring practical, critical and contextual work through a range of digital, film, darkroom and studio processes. The course encourages the student to work independently and capture their visual ideas.
Year 12 A Level Basic Design: drawing, printing (water, acrylic oil) printing, photography, mixed media. Art History and Contemporary Practice. Component 1: Personal Investigation and independent portfolio, accompanied with a 1000-2000 word essay. (60%). Year 13 Component 1 cont: Personal Investigation and independent portfolio, accompanied with a 1000-3000 word essay. (60%) Component 2: Externally set examination assignment. 15 hours (40%) As a part of the course Photography examinations are followed by the annual Art, Photography and Fashion Exhibition that the students organise for parents and the public to view their work. Visits to art galleries and museums is an integral part of the course. The students regularly visit galleries in London, which enhances their knowledge of art-world helping them to develop their own creativity and style. There is also an annual trip to a European City in February (Paris 2014, Amsterdam 2015) which provides extra opportunities for exhibitions, drawing and photographic inspiration in preparation for their Externally Set Assignment.
