Paper 1: Dynamic Landscapes, Physical systems and sustainability - Tectonic Processes and Hazards, The Water Cycle and Water Insecurity, The Carbon Cycle and Energy Security, Climate Change Futures and Coastal Landscapes and Change . 2 hour examination. Paper 2: Dynamic Places, Human Systems and Geopolitics – Globalisation, Regenerating Places, Superpowers, Migration, Identity and Sovereignty or Health, Human Rights and Intervention. 2 hour examination Paper 3: Synoptic paper - The specification contains three synoptic themes within the compulsory content areas: Players Attitudes and actions Futures and uncertainties The synoptic investigation will be based on a geographical issue within a place-based context that links to the three synoptic themes and is rooted in two or more of the compulsory content areas. Coursework: Independent Investigation The purpose of this coursework is to test skills in independent investigation. The investigation will incorporate fieldwork data (collected individually or as part of a group) and own research and/or secondary data. A written report of 3000–4000 words. A residential field visit for a minimum of 4 days is an integral part of the course in preparation for the coursework.
