
You will develop insightful evaluations of and ultimate questions about the purposes and commitments of human life, especially as expressed in philosophy, ethics and religion. Philosophy: you will study philosophical arguments for the existence of God, such as Design Argument, Cosmological Argument. You will study the problem of evil and suffering; is it meaningful to talk about God, life after death and whether religion and science is compatible. Ethics: you will study ethical issues, ethical theories such as Utilitarianism, Kant, Virtue Ethics, and Situation Ethics. We look at issues such as sexual ethics, euthanasia and abortion. Religion: When studying Christianity, we examine sources of authority, Jesus, and works of scholars on the atonement theory on Barth and Hick.
You will take 3 examinations at the end of year 13.
