Especially those in the creative industries • you will develop intellectual curiosity for the design and manufacture of products and systems, and their impact on daily life and the wider world, making you a more discriminating purchaser • it will help you to be creative in your approach to work and develop your sketching ability and use of digital technologies in designing and creating quality products • you will gain an insight into the creative, engineering and/or manufacturing industries and learn about the iterative design practices and strategies they use • you will learn about important issues that affect design in the wider world such as sustainability, globalisation and inclusive design; in order to become an empathetic and successful designer who can consider the wider social implications of products This course will cover practical skills, theoretical knowledge and confidence to succeed in a number of careers. Calculating your Point Score • Points have the same numerical value as the grade achieved. For example a Grade 5 is equivalent to 5 points. • Combined Science GCSE counts as two GCSEs and the two grades should be combined. For example a 7/6 would be 13 points. • For students who have studied a Level 2 BTEC Qualification the following conversions should be used: Distinction* : 8 Points Distinction: 7 Points Merit: 6 Points Pass: 5 Points To study this course you will need to achieve 36 - 47 points if you wish to study with other A levels
Your coursework counts for 50% of your final A-Level grade, which will start in June of Year 12. The other 50% is from 2 exam papers which will assess your knowledge of technical principles, designing and making understanding and specialist knowledge. You will also be expected to apply your understanding of science and maths to different situations that make up 15% of your final grade.
