Course summary

These career-enhancing courses are an exciting exploration of the vocational study of Performing Arts. As part of your professional pathway you will have the opportunity to experience, and specialise in Acting, Dance and Musical Theatre. You will work individually and as part of a team within a performance environment. You will learn to develop a professional approach to all aspects of the entertainment industry. You will also have the opportunity to go on theatre trips and take part in workshops with external practitioners from the industry. This course is ideally suited to students who are passionate about drama and performance. There is an expectation that students are naturally interested in theatre and performance and will be interested in visiting the theatre and getting involved in productions. This is a demanding course that involves a high degree of group collaboration, analysis of performance and also self-innovation skills. Successful students will often go on to study drama at university or stage school. However, the skills developed over this course are also useful for careers in teaching, marketing, broadcasting and other media related fields. This course will cover Group Performance Workshop Learners explore and integrate creative, physical and vocal skills and techniques, working collaboratively to create a performance in response to a given stimulus. Theatre Directing Learners develop an understanding of the skills used by theatre directors, and apply this knowledge to prepare a script as well as plan and lead rehearsals with performers. Acting Styles Learners explore the approaches and techniques used by different theatre practitioners and/or theatre companies to help develop and adapt their own acting and performance skills in rehearsal and performance of their practical work. Physical Theatre Techniques Learners develop physical theatre techniques, using the body and voice, by actively participating in workshops and rehearsals and then in a performance to communicate meaning to an audience. Developing Skills and Techniques for Performance Learners will develop and apply technical performing arts skills and techniques to produce a recorded performance.

Entry requirements

Calculating your Point Score • Points have the same numerical value as the grade achieved. For example a Grade 5 is equivalent to 5 points. • Combined Science GCSE counts as two GCSEs and the two grades should be combined. For example a 7/6 would be 13 points. • For students who have studied a Level 2 BTEC Qualification the following conversions should be used: Distinction* : 8 Points Distinction: 7 Points Merit: 6 Points Pass: 5 Points To study this course you will need to achieve 32-35 points if you wish 3 BTEC courses 36 - 47 points if you wish to study with other A levels

How you'll be assessed

Equivalent to one A Level. Four units, of which two are mandatory and one external. External assessment accounts for 33% of the course. The external assessment is taken under specified conditions, then marked by Pearson and a grade awarded. All units are assessed using a grading scale of Distinction (D), Merit (M), Pass (P).
