Course summary

The course will be split into three parts which are all equally weighted: 1. Government and Politics of the UK The British Constitution Parliament, the Prime Minister, Cabinet and Judiciary Political parties, Democracy, Elections and Devolution 2. Government and Politics of the USA and comparative politics Constitution, President, Congress and Judiciary Elections, Political parties, Pressure groups and Civil rights Comparative politics: Constitutional arrangements, Executives, Judiciaries, Electoral and party systems, Pressure groups and Civil rights 3. Political ideas Liberalism, Conservatism, Socialism Nationalism, Feminism, Multiculturalism Anarchism, Ecologism As part of the course, senior political figures will be invited to address students and visits will be organised to political bodies, including the Houses of Parliament, Suprer Court and Electoral Commission.

Entry requirements

Grade 6 in English and a 6 in a further written subject (Humanities)

How you'll be assessed

100% Exam: 3 x 2 hour exams at the end of Year 13
