What is Uniformed Protective Services BTEC? Uniformed Protective Services are at the very heart of our community, and those who pursue a career within one of the uniformed services will be fulfilling a vital role in society. The BTEC in Protective Services has a very practical emphasis. On completion, learners will have taken an important first step onto the ladder of a well-structured and rewarding career. BTEC Level 3 in Protective Services will give students an insight into the different uniformed and non-uniformed Protective Services, from fire fighters, the army and the Police to mountain rescue, teaching and custodial care. The qualification will help students to understand the importance of teamwork and effective communication within the Protective Services as well as the entry requirements and working conditions for the services that students are most interested in. Where can Uniformed Protective Services lead me? The BTEC Level 3 National Subsidiary Diploma is a vocational or work-related qualification. This does not mean that it will give students the skills needed to do a job, but it does mean that students will have the opportunity to gain specific knowledge, understanding and skills that are relevant to chosen areas of work. Structure of the Course At Glyn School we study the Edexcel BTEC Level 3 National Subsidiary Diploma in Protective Services. This is made up of five units of study across two years and comprising of a total of 60 credits. All units are internally assessed and verified based on the achievement of all the specified learning outcomes. There are no external examinations. Students are assessed on their written and oral communication skills and a range of practical tasks both inside and outside the classroom. Mandatory Units Unit 1: Government, Policies and the Protective Services (10 credits). Unit 2: Leadership and Teamwork in the Protective Services (15 credits). Unit 3: Citizenship, Diversity and the Protective Services (15 credits). Optional Units Unit 5: Physical Preparation, Health and Lifestyle for the Protective Services (10 credits). Unit 15: Planning and Management of Major Incidents (10 credits).
