What is Philosophy, Religion and Ethics (PRE) Studies? A Level PRE challenges students to see the world in a different way. It includes the study of the most abstract features of the world and the ways in which we make ethical decisions. It involves careful thought about the fundamental nature of the world, the grounds for human knowledge and reasoning and the evaluation of human conduct. It also offers the opportunity to study a world religion in depth. Where can Religious Studies lead me? An A Level in PRE offers the opportunity to branch into many different fields. For example: - Law. - Diplomatic Service. - Social Work. - Civil Service. - Politics. - Education. Structure of the Course At Glyn School we follow the Eduqas specification and students will sit three examinations on the following topics: Component 1: Philosophy Theme 1: Arguments for the Existence of God. Theme 2: Challenges to Religious Belief. Theme 3: Religious Experience. Theme 4: Religious Language. Component 2: Ethics Theme 1: Ethical Thought. Theme 2: Deontological Ethics. Theme 3: Teleological Ethics. Theme 4: Determinism and Free Will. Component 3: A Study of a World Religion - Christianity Theme 1: Religious Figures and Sacred Texts. Theme 2: Religious Concepts and Life. Theme 3: Significant Social and Historical Developments in Religious Thought. Theme 4: Religious Practices that Shape Religious Identity.
