You only have to switch on the news to see that we live in a fast-paced, ever-changing world with climate change becoming the big issue of our time. Geography gives you the chance to learn about these changes, and how they will affect future generations. The Geography A Level course provides a balance between physical, human, and environmental interests and is taught by an established and experienced staff who devote a great deal of time to assisting and directing student learning. The department uniquely offers students a refreshing progression from GCSE to A Level, introducing topics that will stretch and excite students’ minds, perceptions and stimulate their interests in some of the big issues that we face today. Students normally have the opportunity to undertake fieldwork and trips to Holderness coast for physical and human landscapes fieldwork, to Birmingham for social, cultural, and economic fieldwork, and to Lincoln for social, cultural, and economic fieldwork. Course Structure: Unit 1 - Physical Geography (water, carbon, climate change, coastal landscapes, and natural hazards). Unit 2 - Human Geography (globalisation, population and the environment and changing places). Unit 3 - Geographical fieldwork investigation.
Students are assessed via examination and coursework investigation.
