This qualification is designed to support progression to higher education when taken as part of a programme of study that includes other appropriate BTEC Level 3s or A Levels. It combines well with a large number of subjects such and supports entry to higher education courses in a very wide range of disciplines. The course comprises of anatomy and physiology (the body, its systems that keep it going and how these systems such as the muscles and bones work together to allow movement. Skill acquisition where you learn how is the best way to learn skills and what steps you need to make that skill permeant in your memory. Sport and society tells how sport has a role in the life we live and how different people relate to and use sport to live their lives. Sport psychology focuses on why we take part in sport, what motivates us to try harder and why some people are more naturally suited to certain types of sports than others mentally.
2 written papers, both 2 hours long taken on different days in Year 13 at the end of the course. Papers comprise of a mixture of multiple choice, short answer and extended writing. Each paper is marked out of 105 marks and worth 35% of total A Level qualification. Students assessed as a performer or coach in the full sided version of one activity of their choice (taken from an approved list of activities as set by AQA). Marked out of 90 and worth 30% of total A Level. Video evidence will need to be provided and students must be actively taking part in that activity on a regular basis outside of school.
