Course summary

Why study business management? Studying business management will encourage students to have a holistic view of the world of business, whilst empowering them to think critically and strategically about individual and organisational behaviour. Studying topics such as marketing, operations management and finance will give student a greater understanding of how different businesses are managed. Having a deeper knowledge of businesses will equip students with the life skills required for entering the world of employment. Business management links to a number of different professions including; banking, finance, marketing, human resource management and operations management. Unit 1: Business organisation and environment Unit 2: Human resource management Unit 3: Finance and accounts Unit 4: Marketing Unit 5: Operations management

How you'll be assessed

External assessment (3 hours) Paper 1 (1 hour and 30 minutes) 35% Syllabus content: Units 1-5 Based on a pre-released statement that specifies the context and background of the examination case study. Additional unseen material will be provided in the examination. Section A Students answer all structured questions in this section based on the case study (20 marks). All 5 units of the syllabus can be assessed, excluding HL extension topics. Section B Students answer one out of two extended response questions based on the case study (10 marks). All 5 units of the syllabus can be assessed Paper 2 SL (1 hour and 30 minutes) 35% Syllabus content: Units 1-5 Section A Students answer all structured questions in this section based on unseen stimulus material (20 marks). All 5 units of the syllabus can be assessed (excluding HL extension topics, of course). Section B Students answer one out of two questions comprised of some structured questions and an extended response question based on the unseen stimulus material. (20 marks) Internal assessment 20% Students produce a research project about a real business issue or problem facing a particular organization using a conceptual lens. Maximum 1,800 words. (25 marks)
