Whatever your favourite dance style - ballet, jazz, urban or contemporary - your skills and technical ability will benefit from this course, which is ideal for anyone considering a dance-focused career. During your studies, you will develop your understanding of a wide range of dance disciplines, styles and approaches. You will also gain an insight into the range of career paths available, and enjoy opportunities to enhance your learning experience by working with visiting professional dancers and choreographers. What will I study? The UAL Level 3 Extended Diploma in Dance is equivalent to three A-Levels and suitable for progression onto Higher Education. You will study a range of projects such as Dance Techniques, Rehearsing and Performing, and Musical Theatre Dance Styles and you will also explore the background to these in Context lessons. During your studies, you will also develop your interpersonal, critical and decision-making abilities, which are essential skills for your future career. What will I be doing? The course has regular technique classes in ballet, jazz, contemporary and urban dance where you will work on your placement, flexibility and strength. In other areas of the programme the focus will be on developing your creative and choreographic skills, and you will have the opportunity to develop your talents as you work to put on a series of performances (across a range of styles) each term. Our project-based learning approach will enable you to develop your skills through workshops, assignments and projects. You will also work alongside students of other disciplines to put on a series of performances during the teaching year, including annual Dance showcases and Final Major Projects. You will benefit from masterclasses, workshops and visits from external industry professionals, and carry out work experience both internally and externally across the wider performing arts community both within Liverpool and beyond.
We require a predicted minimum of five GCSEs at grade 9-4/ A*-C, ideally including Maths and English. If you enrol with us and you haven't got a grade 4/C or above in Maths and/or English, we will support you to retake these subjects as part of your study programme. However, as retaking these GCSEs will be an additional demand on your time, it is in your interest to work to pass them the first time round. All students, regardless of GCSE attainment, will be expected to make further progress in their communication and mathematical skills. Opportunities to do this will be embedded in course assignment tasks, as well as in work experience and other activities.
