WHAT WILL YOU LEARN? • An understanding of physical growth and development of the child from birth to 8 years old • About cognitive development including intellectual understanding and speech development and the factors that will influence this both positively and negatively. • About emotional and social development in children • About Literacy and numeracy and how these are developed and supported • A range of theories that support development of a child • About keeping children safe in different areas • About first aid and how to respond to emergencies in a care setting • A range of theoretical learning perspective and their advocates • How to apply what you have learnt in the workplace – 50 hours work experience is a requirement

GCSE Grade 5 or above in English

How you'll be assessed

Year 1 - Two internally set and marked assessments on ‘Play and Learning’ based on your work experience One written examination testing Children’s development – this may be delayed if it is felt that you are not ready Year 2 - One external board set and marked task on ‘Development of children’s communication, Literacy and numeracy skills’ – this will involve 6 hours of time including a 3 hour planning session and a 3 hour exam. Three internally set and marked assessments on ‘Keeping children safe” based on your work experience and an assessed “emergency situation” response.
