Course summary

Students work on a range of contemporary subjects including modern and traditional value, cyberspace, equal rights, modern day idols, Spanish regional identity and cultural heritage. The A Level will assist you in developing a broad range of valuable skills and qualities, in addition to purely linguistic skills. You will gain appreciation of contemporary society, you will discuss a range of topical issues, you will learn to debate and to improve your ability to present an argument, and you will learn to summarise information you read and hear. Furthermore, you will develop skills to respond imaginatively to spoken and written texts, as well as to weigh up the pros and cons of various issues you study and come to an informed conclusion.

Entry requirements

GCSE Grade 6 or above in Spanish. If you are a native speaker that hasn’t completed the GCSE, you will be accepted on the course providing you can pass a written assessment with a grade 6 or higher.

How you'll be assessed

50% = Paper 1 – Listening, Reading and Writing including translation from Spanish into English (100 marks) 20% = Paper 2 – Two essay either one based on a film or a set text or two essays on a set text. (80 marks) 30% = Paper 3 – Speaking which consists of an individual research project and discussion of a sub-theme with the discussion based on stimulus card (60 marks)
