Economics is the study of how individuals, businesses and governments make decisions about the use of resources available to them to satisfy the infinite wants and needs. Throughout the two year linear course you will study and understand the theory behind real life economic events, business and consumer behaviour. You will be assessed on your ability to use both quantitative and qualitative evidence to evaluate arguments and to support judgements relating to economic issues and problems. You will investigate micro and macroeconomics. Microeconomics addresses issues in individual markets such as: ‘Why are house prices so high?’ and ‘Should governments interfere with markets?’ The macroeconomic issues cover whole economies including: ‘Why does the government have an inflation rate target and how does it affect us?’ and ‘How are we affected by the Chinese and Indian economies?’ You will also explore contemporary and relevant contexts such as the global context, which includes the impact of globalisation on UK economic performance. WHY THIS COURSE? A well respected qualification – Academic rigour and challenge – Thought provoking debates – Enthusiastic and supportive teaching – A range of extra-curricular trips and experiences.
