Course summary

Three-dimensional Design is concerned with the designing, prototyping, modelling or making of functional and aesthetic consumer products, interiors and architecture. Students will engage with appropriate processes, materials and construction techniques, using maquettes, models and working drawings to help take their initial ideas through to realisation. They will also understand that Three dimensional Design practitioners may work within a small team environment or work as freelance practitioners. They may be responsible for a particular aspect of the Design or Production process or for the entire design cycle. They will need good drawing and communication skills in order to liaise with clients and to promote themselves as three-dimensional designers. All students will participate in practical and theoretical workshops and are encouraged to experiment with a wide range of media in order to express their ideas. All practical work is underpinned by contextual sources and students are encouraged to visit galleries to engage with artwork first hand. WHY THIS COURSE? Experiment, learn and explore the characteristics of materials - explore resistance, malleability, recyclability and sustainability, light, space, form, scale, proportion – develop skills in a variety of areas (interior design, architectural design, product design, sculpture, set design and jewellery - Create exciting, innovative designs, full of meaning - engaging, inspirational lessons.

Entry requirements

Grade 6 in 3D Design or Product Design. This course can be studied alongside Fine Art, Photography and Textiles. You will need enthusiasm and commitment.
