We are pleased to introduce Textiles to our course menu for this year, and hope that it appeals to many students. The course invites you to consider the aesthetic. If you are interested in how things look; fashion, textile art, pattern design and printing, then this is for you. Textiles is a highly creative subject and will complement other creative subjects as well as more theory based qualifications. The course involves a range of practical and folder-based work focusing on a range of design topics. You will develop an awareness of the elements of textile design, such as shape, line, scale, colour, texture, pattern, contrast and repetition in relation to textile design. You will explore a range of briefs to develop an awareness of intended audience or purpose, alongside an ability to respond to an issue, concept or idea. As your confidence develops you will enhance your appreciation of the relationship of form and function and, where applicable, the constraints of working to a brief.
You must have achieved at least a grade 5 in Textiles or Art. Students should have studied Textiles or Art at GCSE to find the course accessible. However, all students with a strong interest in the subject will be considered.
