The Performing Arts qualification will prepare learners for progression within education or into employment in the appropriate vocational sector and it is suitable for those who have decided that they wish to enter a particular area of work. The course is based on several practical areas of study related to performance and the elements of the Performing Arts business. There is a high level of performance in this course and can be taken along with any other BTECs/A-Levels. The Performing Arts BTEC at Level 3 is equivalent to one A Level and will be completed over two years. Throughout the two year course, students will study three mandatory units and a further optional unit. The mandatory units are: - Investigating Practitioners’ Work, Developing Skills and Techniques for Live Performance, Group Performance The Optional Units are: - Classical Ballet Technique, Tap Dance Technique, Jazz Dance Technique, Street Dance Technique, Contemporary Dance Technique, Interpreting Classical Text for Performance, Acting Styles, Developing the Voice for Performance, Improvisation, Movement in Performance, Musical Theatre Techniques and Variety Performance
o access the Vocational Pathway you will have achieved 5 GCSES at grade 4, which needs to include either GCSE Maths or English (Literature or Language). Vocational courses at merit level can be included within the 5 grades required. Students choosing to study vocational courses can still study A-Level courses if they meet the entry requirements and indeed this is recommended for certain career pathways.
