The aim of the History A Level course is to ensure that students will develop their interest in and enthusiasm for the subject and an understanding of its intrinsic value and significance. They will be able to build on their knowledge of the past through experiencing a broad and balanced course of study. The two-year course will develop a range of skills including: In the first year, students study a British period and enquiry unit ‘From Pitt to Peel 1783-1853’ and a non-British period ‘The Cold War 1941-95.’ In the second year, students follow a thematic study unit containing a focus on historical interpretations ‘Britain and Ireland 1791-1921,’ whilst also researching and writing up a 3000-4000 word essay on an aspect of ‘Nazi Germany 1933-45.’
