Course summary

How do we teach languages at EWS? You will need a grade 6 at GCSE (at least) to be able to cope with the linguistic demands of the A Level. In total you will have 10 hours of lessons over each two week timetable cycle. During these lessons you will have the opportunity to develop your linguistic knowledge and cultural understanding through social, intellectual and cultural themes. You will also study literature and film to develop critical skills and increase cultural awareness.. You will be given access to a variety of resources including iPads, novels, magazines, video clips and DVDs which not only will you enjoy but will also help you to perfect your language skills. What will I study? You will be able to study both AS Level or A Level in French or just A level in German or Spanish. The AS examination no longer counts towards the A Level so the A Level is now a ‘stand-alone’ qualification. This means that you will be assessed on everything that you have studied over the two year course at the end of your second year. You will practise and perfect your reading, writing, listening and speaking skills through the following two areas of interest: Social issues and trends (including family structures, traditional and modern values, relationships and friendships, youth trends and personal identity, education and employment opportunities, migration and integration, cultural identity and marginalisation, cultural enrichment and celebrating difference, discrimination and diversity) Political, intellectual and artistic culture (including: regional culture and heritage, the language outside of France/Spain/Germany, literature, art film and music, history)
