The Pearson Edexcel Level 3 GCE Advanced Subsidiary GCE in Business is structured into two themes and consists of two externally examined papers. Students are introduced to business through building knowledge of core business concepts and applying them to business contexts to develop a broad understanding of how businesses work. Students are encouraged to use an enquiring, critical and thoughtful approach to the study of business, to understand that business behaviour can be studied from a range of perspectives and to challenge assumptions. Subject content: AS: Theme 1: Marketing and people You will develop an understanding of: • meeting customer needs • the market • marketing mix and strategy • managing people • Entrepreneurs and leaders AS: Theme 2: Managing business activities You will develop an understanding of: • raising finance • financial planning • managing finance • resource management • External influences A2: Theme 3: Business decisions and strategy This theme develops the concepts introduced in Theme 2. You will develop an understanding of: • business objectives and strategy • business growth • decision-making techniques • influences on business decisions • Assessing competitiveness • managing change A2: Theme 4: Global business This theme develops the concepts introduced in Theme 1. You will develop an understanding of: • globalisation • global markets and business expansion • global marketing • Global industries and companies (multinational corporations) What can I do after studying Business? You can progress from this qualification to: • higher education courses such as business management, business administration, accountancy and finance, human resource management, marketing, retail management, tourism management and international business • a wide range of careers ranging from banking, sales, product management and general management to working in public sector organisations or charities. 5 or more GCSEs at grade 5 To succeed, you will need a minimum C grade in Mathematics and English Language. There is no prior learning or other requirements for this qualification.
All units will be externally assessed in A2. Essential qualities and skills needed: As this course is assessed purely by exams, it is important to have: • Consistently high attendance to ensure you do not miss out on vital teaching content • A good working attitude to make sure that work is completed to deadlines • To be self-motivated to ensure that effective revision is undertaken.
