A Level Mathematics is an interesting and exciting course in which you will gain and work on skills such as problem solving, logic and statistics; skills that will be useful in both your professional life and personal life moving forward. If you enjoy mathematics and want a deeper understanding of the topics you were taught at GCSE, then this course is for you! Who is this suitable for? • You want to learn more ‘real world’ mathematics such as statistics and how people interact with statistics on a day to day basis • You want to further develop problem solving skills and develop how to use critical thinking • You want to deepen your understanding of the application of mathematics in the sciences What will I be studying? Pure Mathematics – Proof, Algebra and functions, Coordinate geometry in the (x, y) plane, Sequences and series, Trigonometry, Exponentials and logarithms, Differentiation, Integration, Numerical methods. Statistics and mechanics – Statistical sampling, Data presentation and interpretation, Probability, Statistical distribution, Statistical hypothesis testing, Quantities and units in mechanics, Kinematics, Forces and Newton’s laws, Moments. What subjects go with Mathematics? Scholars often also study Physics, Economics, Computing, Chemistry and Biology. Where could it lead me? Scholars can go onto study any of the following courses at university: Mathematics, any Engineering or science related course, Business, Economics or Computing courses.
