
During this course, you will study types of crime, theories of criminal behaviour and the process from crime scene to courtroom and punishment. You'll engage in thorough examinations or a range of real-life criminal cases and apply various criminological theories to them to advance your understanding of how crime operates in society and the impact that it has. This course is assessed through a mixture of examinations (50%) and controlled assessment (50%). You will gain a variety of transferrable skills required for your next steps.
As a minimum, you will need (or equivalent to); GCSE Mathematics grade 4 GCSE English Language or Literature grade 4 plus three more GCSEs at grade 4.
Units 1 and 3 are internally assessed, each through a controlled assessment completed under controlled conditions over a period of 8 hours. Units 2 and 4 are externally assessed through synoptic examinations (short & long answer questions) each 1 hour 30 minutes in duration.
