Course summary

Studying Biology will give you a fascinating insight into a diverse range of topics such as how the body works together, how organisms are cloned and how DNA from a crime scene can be sequenced. Carrying out lots of practical work makes learning enjoyable and really helps your understanding, for example dissections mean you can see in real life the theory you have been learning. The teaching is excellent with a variety of interesting tasks, discussions and support materials, meaning your learning is supported in lots of different ways.

Entry requirements

As a minimum, you will need (or equivalent to); GCSE Mathematics grade 4 GCSE English Language or Literature grade 5 GCSE Biology/Double Science grade 6 plus two more GCSEs at grade 4. It is not recommended to combine this subject with Applied Science, as the courses contain similar content.

How you'll be assessed

There are three written exams. Two of these are 2 hours and 15 minutes, whilst the third is 1 hour and 30 minutes long. The practical endorsement is awarded based on laboratory skills observed during practical lessons and written evidence recorded within a lab book.
