Course summary

Studying Health and Social Care is a good start for anyone who would like a career in which they support and care for others. A range of topics are covered in this subject which will enable you to understand the needs of individuals who use services and the roles and responsibilities of Health and Social Care professionals who support them. On the Extended Diploma programme, classroom-based learning is supported by work placements where you will have the opportunity to apply your knowledge and understanding in environments such as care homes, day services, hospitals, and nurseries.

Entry requirements

As a minimum, you will need (or equivalent to); GCSE Mathematics grade 4 GCSE English Language or Literature grade 4 plus three more GCSEs at grade 4. to have a DBS check to allow you to participate in work placements on the Extended Diploma. We can discuss this process with you at your Advice and Guidance session following your application to Huish.

How you'll be assessed

The Extended Certificate includes an exam in each year and two internally assessed units (coursework). The Extended Diploma includes two exams in Year 1, one exam and one controlled assessment in Year 2, and nine internally assessed units (coursework).
