Physics is the study of how nature behaves, from the smallest sub-atomic particles to the largest distances across the universe. You will learn how observations and measurements are used to develop theories. You will examine how physics is used in the development of a wide range of technologies that greatly benefit the way we live. Supported by our fantastic facilities, you will carry out many practical investigations to identify patterns and establish relationships that will help you understand the nature of energy and matter and understand how these discoveries are made. The physics department is very well staffed and equipped, with experienced well qualified physics specialist teachers. Small class sizes facilitate tutorial activities and one-to-one help, ensuring that students are fully supported throughout the course. Physics students at BurntwoodSixth Form are invited to attend a ‘Physics in Action’ lecture day in London during their first year, and during the course are invited to visit CERN in Geneva. This 3 day trip gives a wonderful insight to the work that CERN carries out, as well as experiencing some of the other important features of the city. Physics A Level will enable you to progress to Higher Education and careers in fields such as physics, astrophysics, medical physics, geophysics, space science, telecommunications, engineering, computer science, materials Science and chemical engineering. Many financial institutions actively seek physics graduates.
At least 5 level 9-4 grades at GCSE 4 with a level 6 in Mathematics and a level 6 in Physics or 6-6 in Combined Science.
