Course summary
Modern foreign languages – French, Spanish and Urdu A level • You will study the society, culture and some aspects of recent history of the main country (France / Spain /Pakistan) and other parts of the world where the language is used. • You will study a film and a novel in depth and write essays about them in French / Spanish / Urdu • Your language skills will develop rapidly in Year 12 as grammar is revised and extended. • You will undertake research on a topic of your own choice, writing summaries of articles in French / Spanish / Urdu. In French and Spanish you will discuss your findings in the speaking exam; in Urdu you will write an essay about your research. • In the exam you will also be assessed in reading, listening and translation • There is no speaking exam in Urdu but two novels and two films are studied What next? Recent students of French / Spanish / Urdu have gone on to study a range of subjects including Medicine, International Relations, International Business, Law, French and Italian, French and Spanish, French and Arabic, Japanese and Chinese, Latin American studies (including Spanish and Portuguese) at top universities (e.g. Oxford, Kings, SOAS, Leeds).
