Burntwood PE Department has a fantastic range of facilities including a sports hall, fitness suite, swimming pool, field, gymnasiums, and tennis/ netball courts. This allows students to develop their fitness, skills, and techniques through gaining a secure understanding of a range of sports that are on offer. We have a popular extra- curricular club timetable, which changes termly, the majority of which are available for Sixth Form students to attend. Burntwood students regularly participate in a large number of fixtures, tournaments, and competitions each year within the borough. Sixth Form students can also assist with PE clubs which helps develop their coaching experience, linking with the KS5 PE course syllabus. This helps develop a cohesive sporting community at Burntwood, with Sixth Formers providing support and guidance to younger students at the school. PE KS5 students also have the opportunity to develop their leadership roles by assisting with a number of borough events, intra- school competitions and Sports Day. The Sport and Physical Activity course is made up of five units which take place over the two years of study. Students are assessed through written and practical coursework in areas such as sports coaching, organising sports events and through practical skill performance in team, individual and outdoor adventurous activities. This allows students to perform to their strengths by selecting sports that they have experience playing. There are also two examinations which focus on the body systems and sports development. The course content suits those who prefer being assessed in a variety of different ways including through presentations, leading sports events, coaching younger students and completing written performance reviews. We look forward to welcoming you to Burntwood Sixth Form and encourage you to participate in the wide range of sporting opportunities on offer.
