
Introduction: The topics in this exciting course lend themselves to studying and engaging with the business world in a variety of contexts (e.g. large/small, UK focused/global, service/manufacturing) and consider the factors such as the importance of business in relation to decision making. The interrelated nature of business activities and how they affect competitiveness, the competitive environment and the markets in which businesses operate, the influence of functional decisions and plans including ethical and environmental issues, the factors that might determine whether a decision is successful e.g. the quality of data and the degree of uncertainty, how technology is changing the way decisions are made and how businesses operate and compete, the impact on stakeholders of functional decisions and their response to such decisions. This course will further encourage students to analyse the use of non-quantitative and quantitative data in decision making (including the interpretation of index numbers and calculations such as ratios and percentages). Where does it Lead to? Business is a versatile subject that can not only lead to a career in the business world, financial services or the banking industry. It can lead towards a career in marketing and even education. Course Detail: Business is a two year Linear course. All examinations will take place at the end of the second year of the course. Assessment Details: 3 x 2 hour written papers each of which is worth 33% of the final grade. Paper 1 Questions Paper 2 Paper 3 Three compulsory sections: ● Section A has 15 multiple choice questions and is worth 15 marks ● Section B has several short answer questions and is worth 35 marks ● Section C has two extended questions each worth 25 marks. The section is worth 50 marks. (100 marks in total). Consists of a variety of case study questions totalling 100 marks. A synoptic paper that requires students to respond to a data that is provided. Students will be required to draw together all the knowledge and skills acquired throughout the two year course to gain the 100 marks on this paper.
