A level English Literature builds on the skills from GCSE English Literature. You will study a range of texts in detail (novels, plays and poetry collections) from different time periods. You will explore the writers’ and readers’ ideas and attitudes; the historical context and the form and language of the writing in tutorial and seminar type lessons. You should enjoy reading and be prepared to offer your own ideas in discussion and presentations. Coursework requires good organisation and the ability to develop your ideas. The creative response option for coursework is accompanied by written analysis of your writing choices. The skills of close critical analysis and structuring essays support a number of other A level subjects and prepare you for a range of academic Higher Education courses.
Minimum GCSE requirements: Grade 6 in English Literature and Language.
