Media Studies

Course summary

The Media Studies AS qualification explores and analyses the impact that Media has on the world that we live in today. You will gain knowledge and understanding of media language, representation, media industries and audiences. During the year, students will study the power of advertising, explore the ways music videos get us talking, how the online age is impacting news production and a comparative film study, looking at how the genre has evolved. In addition, students will produce their own media production, looking at horror film trailers or film marketing. Students will also be required to give a reflective analysis of their own production. At A2, these skills will be developed further with a chance for students to engage in an individual investigative research project and explore a greater variety of media formats, such as alternative media and video games.
