What are the Key Features of the WJEC Level 1/2 Award in Sport and Coaching Principles? It is a level 2 Qualification, so it is equivalent to One GCSE. You can achieve the following Qualifications: Distinction* = A* Distinction = A Merit = B Pass = C If you do not achieve at Level 2 Qualification – (A*-C), Pupils still have the safety net of achieving a Level 1 Qualification–(D-G) Content Topic areas covered in the WJEC Level 1/2 Award in Sport and Coaching Principles are as follows: Unit 1 Improving Sporting Performance. The purpose of this unit is for learners to gain the knowledge and understanding needed to be able to analyse performance of individuals and review options to improve performance. Unit 2 Fitness for Sport. The aim of this unit is to develop in learners the knowledge, understanding and skills to plan training programmes to improve the fitness of individuals. Unit 3 Coaching Principles. The aim of this unit is to provide learners with the appropriate knowledge and understanding to be able to plan, lead and evaluate a sporting activity. Assessment Improving Sports Performance and Coaching Principles will be assessed through ongoing Controlled Assessments carried out throughout the year. These are set by WJEC and marked by the school. Pupil work will be marked against an assessment criteria set by the board. Pupil work will then be sent to the WJEC to be externally verified. Fitness for Sport will be assessed though a 90 minute interactive online exam will can be taken in Both June of Year 10 and June of Year 11. The best grade for the two attempts will go through to calculate the final grade, along with the other two units. There is no assessment for practical performance, however pupils will be assessed in their ability to deliver coaching sessions in their desired sport. Lesson time allocation will be five hours per fortnight and pupils will experience both practical and theory Lessons.
