Course summary

This two-year Photography GCSE course covers a wide range of photographic activities and is designed for students who have a genuine interest in the subject. To complete the course, students need to produce one unit of coursework and one unit of exam work. The majority of the work is presented in the form of a Digital Portfolio. In Year 10, students begin work on set projects but are encouraged to interpret the projects as imaginatively and originally as possible. By the end of Year 10, students are working on their own theme with guidance from their teacher. All students will need access to a camera/good phone camera. The course will include the following options: Digital photography Traditional photography Film / video/animation Portraiture/Landscape/Still life Documentary photography Photo journalism Experimental imagery Installation At the end of the two years students present their digital portfolio and print-out a selection of their best photographs to exhibit for their coursework unit and exam work. 60% of the final mark is allocated to coursework, 40% to the practical examination. The final practical examination takes place before Easter in Year 11. Students are given a theme and can interpret this in any chosen way. Examination papers are received 8 weeks before the examination date, enabling students plenty of time to prepare for the examination. The examination takes place over 2 days. All coursework should be completed by Easter Year 11.
