Course summary

Content: The advanced level art and design course is lively and intense offering opportunity for debate, self-discovery and personal expression. The course encourages an adventurous and enquiring approach to art, which is nurtured through the wide range of materials and processes on offer. As well as making works of art, students are encouraged to reflect on their own work and on the work of others. This integral aspect of the course is developed through visits to art exhibitions both locally and abroad. Residential trips have included London, Paris, Prague, Barcelona and Florence. Extra-curricular activities such as life drawing sessions, landscape workshops and trips to galleries are an integral part of the course. AS and A2 level art are recommended for students who wish to continue to express their experience and awareness of the visual world through a creative process as well as those who wish to pursue a career in art and design. Career Routes: Both the AS and A2 level art are recognised qualifications for entry into all universities and are particularly useful for careers involving every aspect of design, architecture, media and the arts generally. Entry into higher education is usually directly through UCAS or via a one year Arts Foundation course and requires a portfolio of work.
