Course summary

The course covers physical, inorganic and organic chemistry topics designed to build on GCSE knowledge and to form an excellent basis for further study. As well as enhancing students’ knowledge of chemistry the course aims to develop analytical, problem solving and practical skills. The content of the course reflects new advances in analytical techniques as well as an increased focus on applications of chemistry in medical and pharmaceutical contexts. Units to be examined: Paper 1: Inorganic, Physical, Practical skills Paper 2: Organic, Physical, Practical skills Paper 3: Any content, any practical skills CAREERS A-Level Chemistry attempts to answer the big question ‘what is the world made of’ and it is the search for this answer that makes this subject so fascinating. From investigating how one substance can be changed drastically into another, to researching a new wonder drug to save millions of lives, the opportunities that chemistry provides are endless.
