Course summary
Students will study all three areas below and will be assessed by examinations at the end of Year 12 for the ‘AS’ qualification and at the end of Year 13 for the A-Level. Pure Maths Proof, algebra and functions, coordinate geometry in the (x,y) plane, sequences and series, trigonometry, differentiation, integration, numerical methods, vectors. Statistics Statistical sampling, data presentation and interpretation, probability, statistical distributions, statistical hypothesis testing. Mechanics Quantities and units in mechanics, kinematics, forces and Newton’s laws, moments. CAREERS Maths is one of the best subjects to develop analytical, research and problem-solving skills. Maths supports the study of subjects like science, engineering, IT, economics and business. Studying maths alongside essay based subjects can also help keep your options open. Maths A-Level is a must for degrees in: physics, engineering, actuarial science, economics and, of course, maths (you may also need further maths). It is recommended, sometimes required for computer science, accounting, sciences, medicine/nursing, dentistry, business, finance, architecture, geology, psychology, and even philosophy at university. A-Level maths provides a firm foundation for all scientific, technical, engineering and mathematical careers and a flying start for many others, the list is endless.
