
In the first year, you will learn about the principles and applications of science and cover some of the key concepts at Level 3 in Biology, Chemistry and Physics. You will also have a practical introduction to the use of standard laboratory equipment, scientific procedures and techniques. Year 1 is internally assessed. In the second year, you will learn science investigation skills which is externally assessed. You will also learn about the physiology of human body systems which is internally assessed.
Minimum 5 GCSEs at Grade 9-4 mainly at Grade 4 or above. Pathway 1+ (2 years) Academic Entry Requirements 6 or more A*-C/9-4 GCSE grades mainly at Grade B/6/Merit or above and including either Mathematics or English Language at Grade 4 or above (only one BTEC grade may be considered). Post-16 Courses Available at Newman College Four A-level courses (or BTEC Level 3 courses) for those students with mainly A*-A or 9-8 grades. Three A-level courses (or BTEC Level 3 courses) + re-take courses in GCSE Mathematics and English Language if grade 4 has not yet been achieved. Pathway 2 (2 years) 5 or more A*-C/9-4 GCSE grades mainly at Grade C/4 and/or BTEC qualifications at pass and above.
