Course summary

You will develop an understanding and ability to apply the fundamental principles and concepts of computer science, including: abstraction, decomposition, and logic, algorithms and data representation. You will have the ability to analyse problems in computational terms through practical experience of solving such problems, including writing programs to do so. The capacity to think creatively, innovatively, analytically, logically and critically, and use mathematical skills are also vitally important.

Entry requirements

Minimum 6 GCSES at Grades 9-4 mainly at Grade 6 or above. Computer Science GCSE at Grade 5 or above Pathway 1+ (2 years) Academic Entry Requirements 6 or more A*-C/9-4 GCSE grades mainly at Grade B/6/Merit or above and including either Mathematics or English Language at Grade 4 or above (only one BTEC grade may be considered). Post-16 Courses Available at Newman College Four A-level courses (or BTEC Level 3 courses) for those students with mainly A*-A or 9-8 grades. Three A-level courses (or BTEC Level 3 courses) + re-take courses in GCSE Mathematics and English Language if grade 4 has not yet been achieved. Pathway 2 (2 years) 5 or more A*-C/9-4 GCSE grades mainly at Grade C/4 and/or BTEC qualifications at pass and above. Post-16 Courses Available at Newman College Three BTEC Level 3 courses + re-take courses in GCSE Mathematics and English Language if grade 4 has not yet been achieved. Options for students after completing pathway: - Foundation or Degree (Level 4) - Start Level 3 or 4 courses at courses in Higher Education (e.g. University via UCAS). other institutions. - Employment or apprenticeships
