
The course involves the study of a variety of language-related topics, including child language development, language change and language in the media. You will be discussing and debatingtopical language issues and you will learn how to write about those issues in ways which communicate your knowledge to readers who don’t have your linguistic expertise. Nonexaminationassessment gives you the opportunity to carry out an investigation into an area of language of your own choosing. The course is taught through discussion, language study and independent investigation. All Language students need to be able to write accurately and coherently.
Minimum 6 GCSEs at Grade 9-4 mainly at Grade 6 or above. English Language GCSE Grade 5 or above and English Literature GCSE Grade 5 or above. Pathway 1+ (2 years) Academic Entry Requirements 6 or more A*-C/9-4 GCSE grades mainly at Grade B/6/Merit or above and including either Mathematics or English Language at Grade 4 or above (only one BTEC grade may be considered). Post-16 Courses Available at Newman College Four A-level courses (or BTEC Level 3 courses) for those students with mainly A*-A or 9-8 grades. Three A-level courses (or BTEC Level 3 courses) + re-take courses in GCSE Mathematics and English Language if grade 4 has not yet been achieved. Pathway 2 (2 years) 5 or more A*-C/9-4 GCSE grades mainly at Grade C/4 and/or BTEC qualifications at pass and above.
