This course has three components: Philosophy, Ethics and Developments in religious (Christian) thought. Philosophy covers the nature of ‘God’ and challenges to religious beliefs both ancient and modern. Ethics covers the classical ethical perspectives and applies ethics to a number of real issues. Developments in religious (Christian) thought is an exploration of Christianity in more depth – you will look at central and differing beliefs about human nature, the purpose of life, revelation, faith and reason, and the challenges of secularism and pluralism.
Minimum 6 GCSEs at Grade 9-4 mainly at Grade 6 or above. English Language GCSE Grade 5 or above. Pathway 1+ (2 years) Academic Entry Requirements 6 or more A*-C/9-4 GCSE grades mainly at Grade B/6/Merit or above and including either Mathematics or English Language at Grade 4 or above (only one BTEC grade may be considered). Post-16 Courses Available at Newman College Four A-level courses (or BTEC Level 3 courses) for those students with mainly A*-A or 9-8 grades. Three A-level courses (or BTEC Level 3 courses) + re-take courses in GCSE Mathematics and English Language if grade 4 has not yet been achieved. Pathway 2 (2 years) 5 or more A*-C/9-4 GCSE grades mainly at Grade C/4 and/or BTEC qualifications at pass and above.
