The A-level music specification enables students to enhance their knowledge and understanding of music, to create and develop their own musical ideas and to demonstrate technical and interpretive skills through performing music. This course builds on the knowledge and skills gained from GCSE music and/or musical experience gained outside the classroom. The A-level music programme provides a sound preparation for the study of music in higher education, as well as providing opportunities to develop strengths and interests leading to music-related careers.
5 x 9-5 passes at GCSE, with English and Maths at a grade 5 or above A grade 6+ in the subjects students would like to study (or related subjects)
Paper 1– Written and listening exam—40% of total mark Performance— Minimum 10 minute performance (solo and/or ensemble) - 35% of total mark Composition—Minimum 4 minutes and 30 seconds of music—25% of total mark
