
This course helps students understand the nature of chemicals and chemical processes. You will look at the key concepts of Chemistry including aspects of physical, inorganic and organic chemistry including analysis and characterisation of novel compounds. The aim is for students to develop a conceptual understanding and become competent and confident practitioners. Practical skills are developed and assessed through an ongoing teacher led practical endorsement.
Minimum 6 GCSEs at Grade 9-4 mainly at Grade 6 or above. Combined Science Trilogy or Chemistry GCSE at Grade 6 or above and Mathematics GCSE at Grade 5 or above. Pathway 1+ (2 years) Academic Entry Requirements 6 or more A*-C/9-4 GCSE grades mainly at Grade B/6/Merit or above and including either Mathematics or English Language at Grade 4 or above (only one BTEC grade may be considered). Post-16 Courses Available at Newman College Four A-level courses (or BTEC Level 3 courses) for those students with mainly A*-A or 9-8 grades. Three A-level courses (or BTEC Level 3 courses) + re-take courses in GCSE Mathematics and English Language if grade 4 has not yet been achieved. Pathway 2 (2 years) 5 or more A*-C/9-4 GCSE grades mainly at Grade C/4 and/or BTEC qualifications at pass and above.
