Course summary
The course explores and develops your appreciation of and analytical skills to understand theatre-making, theatre's social context and how we manipulate audiences to think, feel and react. You will work practically to explore drama and theatre theory. You will make scripted theatre and you will devise your own work. You will read plays, perform extracts and visit theatres to see shows, meet actors and see backstage. Where else can you play like a child and think like a philosopher? Component 1: Drama and Theatre. Analyse in detail two set texts from the perspective of a performer, designer and director. Review live theatre; regular visits to different styles of venue and plays. Component 2: Creating Original Drama You will create a unique piece of theatre based on the work of a theatre practitioner. Alongside the process you will keep a record of how and why you are doing it in order to reflect on your success. Component 3: Making Theatre You will explore and interpret three different set to texts create a workshop performance for an audience. You will be expected to keep a record of the process and report it.
